This Blog’s Purpose

The purpose of this blog is five-fold:

  1. To illustrate, by way of a current real life example, the challenges and rewards that a caregiver for an incapacitated loved one can experience. This will be important for those of you who are contemplating accepting the role of caregiver in order to better appreciate what you are undertaking.
  2. To provide web links to the newest tools, resources, articles, and live workshops/conferences that pertain to caregiving. This will be important for those of you currently serving as a caregiver to either (1) make your assignment more effective or easier, or to (2) draw encouragement and a sense of perspective in knowing something about others in situations similar to yours.
  3. To compare and contrast, by way of my own or published real life examples, the two different ways to be a caregiver: (1) living in the same house or (2) your loved one is living in an assisted living facility (of which there are many types and cost schedules). This will be important for those of you who are contemplating accepting the role of caregiver in order to better appreciate the quality of care versus expense of care trade-offs.
  4. To provide timely updates to friends, family, former (or current) co-workers, and neighbors, of the current status of both the caregiver and care recipient.
  5. To educate and enlighten members of the general public about what caregiving for an incapacitated loved one really means in a practical, daily operational sense.
