Mom is a widowed retired Professor in the Sciences. She is European and is an only child; after marriage to an American, she relocated permanently to the United States. By hobby, she is a highly skilled botanical artist with hundreds of finished pieces to her credit.
She has multiple health problems, with the four most serious ones being moderate stage Alzheimer’s (dementia), osteoporosis (she has lost 8 inches of height in about as many years), a hip replacement that forces her to use a cane or walker, and a chronic but non-contagious lung disease.
Credit is also due to two in-house paid home care companions that provide us with a combined 20 hours of support over a 6 day week. They have a broad view of service including helping with basic household tasks, and have made my own time commitment much more reasonable.
